NOTICE OF SERIES
THE US29ER CUP SERIES

PURPOSE: To develop and encourage participation within regions of the US 29er class by providing a predictable calendar of annual events and a culminating event for local competition. A National Title is intended to promote participation and competition between regions. 

RULES 

The US 29er Regional Cup Series consists of 3 sets of 7 regattas (designated by the US 29er class) in each calendar year. The Series is an “open” competition allowing for sailors of all ages. All current 29er Class Members who compete in the series events will automatically be included / scored.

SCORING

The score for each boat will be their final overall finishing position in each regatta. Sailors that do not compete (DNC) in a regatta shall receive points equal to the total number of boats entered in the regatta, plus 5. Ties will be broken by who placed 1st in any Series Regatta, who has placed 2nd and so on until tie is broken.

Regional titles will be earned by the best 4 results of 7 regattas in each region.  

The National title will be awarded the team with the best 8 results in the series (4 of which must be within one region and 4 must be from any combination of races in the other two regions.) 

 

REGIONAL & NATIONAL TITLES & TROPHIES / GIFTS

Gift or trophy shall be presented to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place skippers & crews

Gift or Trophy to the top female skipper & crew.

 

  1. 1. ORGANISING AUTHORITY
    The Organizing Authority for each 29er Cup Qualifying Regatta will be the Sailing Venue OR, when not applicable, the US 29er Class Association. The US Class will collate the results for the overall series.
  2. 2. RULES 

2.1  Racing will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing with this Notice of Series to be followed by each Series Qualifying Regatta. 

2.2  The 29er Class Race Management guidelines will apply, however failure to follow these guidelines are not grounds for redress. 

3. CONDITION OF ENTRY 

3.1  The Regattas are open to 29er sailors who are members of the US 29er Class Association. Sailors who are not current members prior to the first race of each event will not be scored. Class membership information may be found at: www.US29er.org

3.2  Competitors under the age of 18 will be required to provide completed parental consent forms at each event.

  2. 5. MEASUREMENT 

5.1.  All boats must conform to the class rules. Boats may be inspected at the discretion of the organizers.

  1. 6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
    The Sailing Instructions for each US29er Cup Regatta will be distributed at registration OR posted on the individual regatta websites and may vary at each event.
  2. 7. RACING AREA AND COURSES
    Individual Regatta Sailing Instructions will provide the race areas and the course.
  3. 8. SCORING 

8.1.  The Low Points Scoring System of Appendix A will apply. 

8.2.  Three races are required to constitute a US 29er Cup 
Qualifying Regatta. 

8.3.  For the purposes of determining the positions in the US 29er Cup series the final scores of each US 29er Cup Qualifying Regatta shall be re-scored as follows: 

First place 1 point
Second place 2 points
Third place 3 points; add 1 point each place thereafter 

8.4.  If there is more than one boat that is correctly entered for the qualifying regatta, but did not compete, they shall all receive equal last place scores. 

8.5.  The number of boats entered for each qualifying regatta will probably differ. Sailors that do not compete (DNC) in a US 29er Cup Qualifying regatta shall receive points equal to the total number of boats entered in the regatta, plus 5.

8.7.  Each Cup will have sub-groups within the scores to recognize: 

Male teams (both helm & crew are male) 

Mixed teams (helm & crew mixed male/female)

Female teams (both helm & crew are female)
