WOMEN’S 29er SAILING
The 29er class is a showcase for the development of woman’s competitive sailing. Almost a 1/3 of the international fleet is represented by all woman teams. The 29er is the pathway class to the Woman’s Olympic 49er FX.
Sophie Fisher (Newport, RI) and Charlie Leigh (Miami, FL) took Silver for Team USA in the woman’s 29er fleet at ISAF Youth Worlds in Muscat,Oman in December 2021.
Berta Puig (Miami, Fla.) and Bella Casaretto (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) took gold for Team USA in the woman’s 29er fleet at ISAF Youth Worlds in 2019.
Helena Scutt graduated from Stanford University (Biomechanical Engineering, ‘14) and put her master’s degree (Mechanical Engineering) on hold to train full-time for Rio 2016. Helena was captain of the Stanford Varsity Sailing Team for two years. She grew up in Seattle and learned to sail in various boats. Ultimately it was the 29er that drew her away from her soccer craze and she has been loving skiffs ever since. She hopes to inspire more youth sailors, especially girls, to race skiffs and be good stewards of the ocean.
Paris Henken learned to sail in Southern California, some of Paris’s sailing highlights include Representing Team US at the Rio 2016 Games , winning Bronze at the 2016 Pan American Games, winning the 2011 US Youth Champs in the 29er and the 2010 North Americans in the 29erXX. Gary Jobson listed her on his 2012 All-Star Junior list in ‘Sailing World’.
